Arkon Power Value Engineers Lighting for Pet Supermarket

Marino Kolitsopoulos, CEO of Advanced Realty Group, Inc., had a bid in hand to light the building that would become a new Pet Supermarket at 2620 West Bay Drive in Belleair Bluffs, Florida (Pinellas County). But the price was too dog-gone high.

He remembered chatting with Arkon Power representatives at a trade show and wondered, could they engineer a solution that would save him money while providing his client the quality illumination it deserved?

The short answer: Yes.

“We sent the plans we had for the Pet Supermarket, Arkon bid the job and the prices were very competitive,” Kolitsopoulos said. “We decided right away to give Arkon the contract.”

How was Arkon able to come in under budget while providing high quality LED fixtures and ample illumination throughout the new pet store? Through value engineering and an extensive construction plan study, Technical Manager Graham Brown and his team delivered a package of interior and exterior lights that used less energy than Kolitsopoulos’ previous solution while putting just as many lumens on the ground.

“We saw the lighting plan they had in place and knew we could improve on the design,” Brown said. “We’ve done so many similar jobs, we were able to quickly see where we could provide savings in both initial cost and long term power savings.”

The finished product included 81 4-foot linear low bay lights at 90 watts apiece, four wrap around strip fixtures, two flat panels, three standard wall packs, eight emergency flood lights, four down lights and four exit sign/flood light combos.

Kolitsopoulos said the lights met his expectations, and Pet Supermarket has been pleased with the lighting.

“Arkon Power did great—it was really good working with everyone,” he said. “Graham did a great job, a lot of the extras to make sure we had what we needed when we needed it. I was very happy.”

Kolitsopoulos also noted that in specifying jobs for clients, his team has seen LED pricing decline over the past several years. On many projects where he had previously selected fluorescent lights, he said LEDs “have become the way to go.”
